A Little Thing

I was dropping Sammy off at Montessori.  It’s a car line-up and the teachers come out to the curb to bring each child in the building individually.  The teacher tried to pick Sammy up out of her car seat and Sammy said, NO!  I DO IT MYSELF!  The teacher watched as Sammy got out of the car on her own and said, “Now there’s a perfect Montessori student.”

    I have an off-topic question…

    I’m curious why you always quote Sammy in all caps? Is she just loud? Is that kind of the way she speaks?

    If I were to do something similar, my 3.5 yr old would certainly be in all caps, all the time. In fact, I think that’s how he lives his life. He is an ALL CAPS KID.

    Even less “Montessori” are the parents who feel the need to walk their kids to the door, like they are traversing across a glacier or something. Very irritating and prevalent at my daughter’s Montessori school. PDS

    C. – Heehee! No, she doesn’t always talk or live that way. She has her moments, but she’s calm and cautious by 3-year-old standards. I just wanted a way to set her words apart on the blog and decided that all caps was fun. I like the idea of an ALL CAPS KID, though. That’s funny.

    Paul – I know. Ugggh. At open house last week, one dad raised his hand and asked if he could stay in the class for 20 minutes. He was told “No.” That made me feel good about the school I chose. And then the first day was crazy – everyone wanted to walk the kids in. I’ll tell that story when I write up how the first week of Montessori went.
